The rococo style went out of fashion before King Louis XV's death. Inspired by the rediscovery of ancient Pompeii, Neoclassical design brought back a return of Greco-Roman style in furniture and architecture. The style slowly transitioned from the charming organic forms to geometric shapes and classic round tapering leg resembling a Greek or Roman column superseded ornate cabriole legs. Louis XVI's reign began in 1774, his queen Marie-Antoinette was a lover of the arts had much influence over this style. This 18th century design is timeless and elegant, but understated; complimenting a classical setting, or adding exuberant contrasting highlights to modern and contemporary interior settings.
