A rare brass carriage clock that not only strikes the hour and half hour, but has an alarm to strike the hour. Clocks like this one were used on long trips by carriage or train. The solid brass case has a column at each corner to hold the beveled glass front, back, top, and side doors. The brass dial has black Arabic numerals and hands. Just below the main dial is a smaller dial to set the alarm. Intricate time and strike, eight day movement is visible through top and back glass doors. By pushing a small brass button on the top, the hour will strike so as to check the time during the night. Marked on dial: Ovington Brothers, Brooklyn, in working order. France, Circa 1880 (8 in.Hx3.75 in.Wx3.5 in.D)
