Oil on canvas painting depicting an rococo romantic scene of a gentleman proposing to a young woman gathering flowers in a beautful Italian garden. The couple is dressed in 18th century style; the suitor is dressed in knee breeches with white knee stockings, with matching overcoat, embroidered waistcoat ruffled shirts with elaborate cuffs and ruffled ties "cravats", powdered wig pulled back with bow; the maiden wearing a yellow flowing dress with an apron gathered to the side, her hair pulled back in a tight updo. The garden setting with Greco Roman marble sculptures in the beautiful garden of flowers among green, yellow and blue hues. Intricately carved gilt wood frame with centered plaque at the base titled "The Engagement," A.Secola. Signed in lower right hand corner A. Secola. A. Secola is a well know Italian artist from the late19th century.  Other works by him are "The Tired Professor", "The Arithmetic Lesson", "Osteria" and many more courting scenes, etc.
