Pair of rare French Louis XIV gilt bronze and iron alter chairs. Gilt bronze and iron detailed s-curves and intricate design, each chair with two ball finials at the top; brushed red velvet upholstered square seat and oval back, supported on four Baroque Louis XIV square tapered legs joined with iron x-stretcher, resting on ball feet. 


The Baroque style became prominent during the reign of King Louis XIV,  a warrior fighting to restore peace. It was crucial for him to establish an image of power and strength, which he expressed in his majestic furniture style and palaces. Furniture in this dramatic design is classic and and compliments a classical setting or adds exuberant contrasting highlights to modern or contemporary interiors.
