Rococo design dominated interiors and furniture during Louis XV’s reign in the 18th century with sensuous organic curves, assymetry and elaborate ornamentation with an aura of fantasy, luxury and elegance, while being intimate and comfortable at the same time. Art and design was influenced greatly by the king's chief mistress Madame Pompadour, a patron of the arts was behind the funding of the porcelain company Sévres.
